POZ Blogs: AIDS 2010

July 22, 2010

POZ bloggers offer their perspectives on the XVIII International AIDS Conference in Vienna.

Below are links to their blog posts:

Closing The Page On Vienna, Looking Toward Challenges In DC:
"After a powerful speech by Waheedah Shabazz-El representing the U.S. Positive Womens' Network on 'Human Rights as a Conscious Achievement,' the 2010 International AIDS Conference officially passed the baton to Washington, DC, site of the 2012 conference. Before the U.S. & DC community partners accepted the IAC Globe, I addressed the audience."

Microbicides, Men and HIV:
"When Gwenn and I were discussing this news item, my first thought was a personal one: I'd love to have that gel in my nightstand. I'd love to say goodbye to my old friend, the condom, and see what all this skin-on-skin penis-to-vagina fuss is all about. But she made a very astute point, 'Once again, the woman has to bear all the responsibility.'"

All That We Desire
"A potent cocktail of celebrity, power, and wealth dominated discussions Monday at the International AIDS Conference in Vienna ... Navigating sexual desire, encounters and relationships in a world with HIV/AIDS was the topic of several sessions."

Mobilize Against the Viral Holocaust, AIDS Activists Implore in Vienna
"In a region of the world where wars and genocide have indelibly marked its history, AIDS activists raised alarm over the lack of treatment imperiling more than 10 million HIV-positive people worldwide to premature illness and death."

Also, here's a link to a post by Paurvi Bhatt at the Levi Strauss blog:

We All Want to Work:
"The business community is applauded for our effort in contributing resources to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic ... But many of us wonder: Do we still need to do more to address HIV/AIDS with our employees?"
